Optical diagnostics for iPhone

Read the device when you can’t reach the port.

Sometimes one LED is enough. MorseReader turns your iPhone camera into a receiver for short diagnostics transmitted by an ordinary blinking LED—no display, cable, network, radio or extra hardware required.

One idea, two generations

Classic Morse and its five-bit successor.

Choose traditional Morse for simple human-readable transmitters, or Manchester-encoded ITA2 for deterministic bit timing, alphabet synchronization and denser diagnostic messages.

A pump could report flow or say that it is running dry. A solar charge controller could show generated power and battery level. A remote sensor could report temperature, and a stalled device could identify the boot stage that failed.

A deliberately narrow channel

Sip the useful bits from the camera firehose.

At 720p and 60 FPS, the camera supplies roughly 0.66 Gbit/s of uncompressed YUV samples. Your status message may be 10 bit/s. Finding the mushy waveform in that torrent of pixels is MorseReader’s problem.

Camera-first, private by design

The signal stays on your phone.

MorseReader performs camera analysis and decoding on-device. It requires no account and has no cloud decoding service.

No network receiverUseful for isolated, offline and embedded equipment.
No electrical connectionObserve status without opening an enclosure or sharing ground.
Diagnostics under your controlRecordings and logs are created only when you choose to save them.

Give a one-LED device a readable diagnostic channel.
